At a Texas wind farm, large EPS blocks are used to support 30 meter long
fiberglass blades prior to installation. The blades are lowered on to
the foam blocks, workers inspect the blades for imperfections, and
prepare them for installation into the generator. The foam blocks work
perfect because they provide enough cushion so as not to damage the
fiberglass, they can be trimmed in the field to be form fitting, and
they provide enough support to keep the blades off the ground and at a
worker accessible height.
