Over 500 cubic feet of 1.35 lb density EPS was used to create this huge EPS foam bear sculpture for the Burning Man Festival in Nevada. 12” thick blocks were laminated together; then the carving process began. The bear was carved using a bow cutter, hot knife and finally sand paper. After the sculpture was carved, thousands of real pennies were glued to the sculpture making it a very unique, very large bear. After the festival ended, the pennies were removed, and the money donated to bear conservation projects in Montana and Canada.
New product prototypes are also often produced from EPS. It can be shaped with a CNC router and cut with a waterjet as well as hot wire equipment and hot knives. Large structures are lightweight and easy to move around.
