The ‘bulldog mascot sculpture’ was commissioned as a class gift to Bowie High School, located in Bowie, Maryland. It sits in front of the entrance to the building. Brett King, the sculptor describes the process below.
In order to create the large outdoor sculpture, first I carved a massive block of 1 lb. foam into a rough bulldog form. Next, I cut apart the rough form and rebuilt it over a steel skeleton (armature). Gorilla Glue worked exceptionally well. Finally, after carving details, I covered the entire form with Winterstone, a product that acts like clay yet looks like stone. The sculpture proudly sits upon a custom built concrete pedestal.
