The National ASCE Concrete Canoe contest is an annual international event where University engineering departments compete to build and race a concrete canoe.
Rutgers University participated in the National ASCE Concrete Canoe competition and for the 2nd year has purchased the EPS Foam from Universal. This year they purchased several small blocks that were shaped by hand on a CNC machine. The expanded polystyrene is lightweight and very easy to work with making it the ideal material for forming the concrete canoes. Rutger’s used a .9 lb Virgin EPS Foam this year to make their mold. Universal has provided EPS Foam to Universities throughout the country for the concrete canoe contest for many years.
