The City of Temecula, California opened the Ice Rink in the town square for Winterfest . The city’s ice rink was open for a three-week holiday run, during which an estimated 12,000 people have traversed its slippery surface, a rink official said. The rink is made of real ice which was kept cold by generators and EPS foam on the bottom for insulation. Universal Foam Products was chosen as the supplier for the rigid insulation. The insulating material was a 1.80lb Virgin EPS foam and 125 pieces of 1” x 48” x 96” were used for the construction of the ice rink. STYROFOAM™ Brand foam and EPS were both evaluated for possible use. EPS was chosen due to the lower cost, identical compression strength and similar R-Value.
