Large Ethafoam are used to protect the umbilicals so they do not get cut or
damaged during packaging for transport. They also act as spacers to
compress the Umbilical into the coil shape as it is loaded on to a ship
for transport. Umbilicals like this are used in underwater oil
exploration providing all of the life support services needed for
underwater exploration. Ethafoam is considered a flexible foam and is
available in a variety of densities from medium flexible to semi rigid.
