Rigid polystyrene or rigid foam is a really popular choice for artists and sculptors when they want to go large. Large blocks of EPS or expanded polystyrene are lightweight and easy to move about. Once in situ they are then carved with a hot knife or hotwire bow cutter but some artists have used chain saws or even an electric carving knife. The blocks can be covered before delivery in coatings to give a smooth or coarse finish depending on the project.
