During time-sensitive renovations of the North End American Grill in Wildwood, NJ, a surfboard bar top was proposed by Joseph Design LLC to compliment the restaurant’s new shore decor. Universal Foam expedited the delivery of custom sized 3lbs density EPS for the “surfoard’s” deck allowing builders from Motion Builders and Wynn Surfboards to complete the fabrication of the 40′ longboard – complete with wood stringers and inlays – with time to spare before opening night. – Kevin Loder – Ocean City, NJ

When our customer in  Big Pine Key, Florida wanted to pull their boat out of the water and set it on storage blocks they contacted Universal Foam Products for STYROFOAM™ boat blocks.  The blocks, which are actually made of EPS (expanded polystyrene) are the most popular boat storage blocks or boat stands because of their strength and durability.  Besides being very economical the EPS will not scratch or damage the boat hull.  It can also be used for sailboat blocks and is available in almost any size.  The 1 lb density EPS blocks used for this boat were 36” x 36” x 36”.  In this case the customer cut the v-groove into the top of the blocks, but they are often left as cubes also.

Styropor® is a product of BASF.  It is a resin used to manufacture expanded polystyrene, commonly referred to as EPS.  The material is also commonly, but mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam.  Styrofoam™ Brand foam is actually a trademarked name of Dow Chemical for their line of “blue board” rigid insulation materials used in the construction industry and their line of Styrofoam™ Brand foam products used in the craft and floral industries.

Styropor® is used to produce rigid insulation, EPS Geofoam, architectural features and concrete forms.  It is also used for molded packaging products, carton liners and may other products used in different industries and consumer products.  Puffed beads from Styropor® are used in the manufacture of bean bag chairs, certain pillows and toys.

Styrofoam balls are used in science, arts and crafts. In a science fair, mainly Styrofoam balls are used as visual representations of different structures to make learning easier. Students also use Styrofoam balls in their various projects. In arts and crafts, we see Styrofoam balls decorated in various ways during different seasons.  Christmas balls for example, during Christmas Holidays, are made from small, medium and even large balls. They are painted with different colors and added with shimmers to make them more appealing. Some also add ribbons, colored beads, sequins and other art materials to come up with different designs. The famous Jesus in the manger scenario uses Styrofoam balls to form the different characters.  Snowman with snowflakes can be made through Styrofoam balls. During Halloweens, Styrofoam balls are formed as pumpkins, spiders, full moons, different monsters or simply as backgrounds covered with blacks or other colors to make a horror impression. Easter eggs for Easter season made from colored Styrofoam balls are made for decoration purposes. During special occasions like fiestas and parades, these Styrofoam balls are used variously. In floral or fruit parades, they are made to form flowers, fruits and plants, colored appropriately to make them appear as real objects. Styrofoam Balls comes in different sizes large, medium and smalls.

Styrofoam or Polystyrene foam, a super lightweight material mostly composed of air (more than 90%) is derived from basic polystyrene.  It was originally created by the Dow Company in the year 1941. This closed-cell foam has a high insulating property plus it is also moisture resistant making it waterproof.  These properties made this material highly useful in different industries.  In the manufacturing of Styrofoam, a lot of shapes can be made due to its versatility. They can be formed as circles, rectangles and even blocks. Styrofoam blocks are made for many uses. In shipping, they are used as a protective barrier for items to be traveled. They can be shaped to fit the edges of the items. They are made as cushions to avoid these items from being damaged or broken.  In packaging, they are used to contain various items such as appliances, glassware, and other fragile items. These three-dimensional shaped Styrofoam blocks are very useful in other ways.  A lot of crafts can be derived out of it. They can be used to duplicate real objects. They are formed as mountains, fields, rocks, trees, structural buildings, and other creative things. They can also be painted to make them appear as real. This application is very much applied in commercials, theaters, school arts, malls, commercial complex, movie industries and many more. Even in the homes, they can be formed into different shapes such as Christmas balls, flowers for the vases, fruits for the tables, and holders for different accessories. These small shaped figures can be derived from Styrofoam blocks that have been previously used

I am currently quoting a job for one of the Presidential Libraries, which will be constructing a replica of the Berlin Wall.  We carry blocks of  EPS – Styrofoam as big as 48″ x 66″ x 288″ and if you need larger you can always glue them together.  There are different densities of foam for each type of sculpting depending on the detail of the project.  Contact me directly at 410-825-8300 to find out what density would work the best for your project.

Adding insulation to your attic is easy with Styrofoam Brand Insulation or EPS rigid insulation. Universal Foam Products will deliver the insulation to your home precut to any thickness you like (the R-Value is between 4 and 5 per inch depending upon the material you choose) and 14-1/2” wide if your joists are 16” on center or 22-1/2” wide if your roof trusses are 24” on center. The material is easy to install (not messy like fiberglass insulation). It is very lightweight, economical and does not settle or lose its insulation value over time.  Call us for a custom quote for your home.

I am currently working on a project with my customer who will be using the EPS Foam cut out cylindrical shapes to create a Greek facade. When using the EPS for shapes, the possibilities are endless. Stay tuned for pictures.
